New Philadelphia is a small city that sits along the banks of the Tuscarawas River. The city is the county seat and largest city in Tuscarawas County. New Philadelphia almost merges with Dover, its twin city and sports rival located to the north. To quickly sound like a local, refer to New Philadelphia as New Phila.
Settlers originally designed the city based on Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Now, the main resemblance is the intersecting main streets, High Avenue and Broadway Street.

Tuscora Park is a municipal park with playgrounds, a carousel, Ferris wheel, train, miniature golf, batting cages, and more. The Tuscarawas River provides opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. The Performing Arts Center is home to the Tuscarawas Philharmonic. Music, dance, and theater performances are also held at the center.
New Philadelphia is located near Amish Country. Take a trip to experience Amish culture and enjoy food, shopping, and wineries. The city is also near many historic sites that recreate or memorialize the early days in Ohio. Both Amish Country and historic sites provide quick day-trips for locals.
Several major roads run through or near New Philadelphia, making it easy to access larger cities. Canton, Akron, Wooster, Cleveland, Columbus, and Pittsburgh are all about 100 miles or less away.
Children will attend the New Philadelphia City School District. A private school option is also available through Tuscarawas Central Catholic. Adults and high school students can get career training from the Buckeye Career Center. The only college in the area is Kent State University at Tuscarawas. Other colleges are available in surrounding counties.
Union Hospital is the closest hospital, located in Dover. There are other medical facilities nearby, and larger hospitals are located in surrounding counties.
